New York is a permit town, and the rules live park by park. The Conservatory Garden runs its own photography permit through the Central Park Conservancy, which buys a 90 minute session across the three garden spaces but does not cover anything beyond handheld gear: tripods, lighting, and large props route through the film and photo process instead. Several flagship parks, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Prospect Park, and the High Line among them, take requests through their own conservancies rather than the city form. Brooklyn Botanic Garden requires a photo session permit for professional portrait and wedding work: $366 for up to 25 people, 60 minutes with a security escort, business hours only, no indoor photos, and a rain date if the weather turns.
