Getting it right
What makes an invoice easy to pay.
- One unambiguous total. Line items with quantity and rate, then a single balance due. If the client already paid a deposit, show it as a credit so nobody has to do subtraction. Not sure whether to call that first payment a deposit or a booking fee? Here is the difference, and it matters for refunds.
- A real due date. Net 30 is a habit from corporate invoicing, not a law. Service vendors commonly use due on receipt or net 7 for balances tied to an event date.
- Numbering that scales. A simple year plus sequence pattern such as 2026-014 keeps records clean for taxes. Speaking of which, the SE tax calculator shows what to set aside from each paid invoice.
- Payment instructions on the invoice itself. Whatever you accept, say so on the document. If you take cards through Stripe, the Stripe fee calculator shows what each payment method costs you.
FAQ
Common questions.
- Is this invoice generator really free?
- Yes. No signup, no email gate, no watermark. Fill in the form and download a real PDF. It exists because BookNox builds invoices automatically at booking, and a working free tool is a better introduction than a locked one.
- Do you store my invoice data?
- No. The PDF is generated from your form input in the moment and streamed straight back to your browser. Nothing you type is saved on our side, and the response is marked not to be cached.
- What should a service invoice include?
- Your business name and contact details, the client's name, a unique invoice number, the issue date and due date, line items with quantity and rate, the total, and how to pay. If a deposit was already paid, show it as a credit line so the balance due is unambiguous.
- Should I add sales tax to my invoice?
- That depends on your state and what you sell; services are taxed in some states and not others. The generator lets you add a tax line, but the rate and whether it applies is yours to confirm with your state or an accountant.
In BookNox the invoice, contract, and deposit are one document generated at booking; see how quote pages work. This free generator keeps none of your data either way. Need a starting layout? Invoice templates.
