Switching from HoneyBook or Dubsado
Moving to BookNox is mostly setup, not migration. Your contacts come over in a file, your packages are rebuilt once in a catalog, and from then on one link quotes, contracts, and collects. BookNox takes no booking cut from any of it.
The steps
To switch over:
- Sign up at booknox.com/start; setting up is free and needs no card
- Import your contacts from a CSV or Excel export
- Set up your packages and prices in a catalog for each industry you serve
- Connect Stripe so deposits reach your bank
- Connect Google Calendar so booked dates drop in and busy days stay closed
- Subscribe, which publishes your booking page
- Point new inquiries at your booking link instead of your old tool
How do I import my contacts?
Open Import from the link on your Clients page or from the optional onboarding step, choose where the file came from (HoneyBook, Dubsado, or Other CSV), and upload a CSV or Excel export of your contacts. The page shows a short hint for finding the export in each tool.
BookNox reads the file and shows a preview before anything is saved. It detects the name, email, phone, and company columns on its own; if a column looks wrong, open Columns look wrong? Remap them and pick the right one. When the preview looks right, confirm, and the contacts land on your Clients page.
What the import brings over
The import brings names, emails, phones, and companies only; projects, contracts, and invoices are not imported. Keep your old account until your existing jobs are finished, and book new work through BookNox.
- Files can be up to 2 MB and 5,000 rows.
- A contact whose email is already on your Clients list is skipped, and so is a repeated email within the file.
- A row with neither a name nor a valid email is skipped; a row with a name and a broken email keeps the name and drops the email.
- Spreadsheet formulas in cells are neutralized, so a pasted formula is stored as plain text.
- Importing sends nothing to your contacts. No email goes out until you send someone a proposal.
Separate first and last name columns
BookNox handles it. When an export has separate first name and last name columns instead of one full name column, the import joins them into one name. The preview shows the result before anything is saved, so you can check a few rows first.
Can I import again later?
Yes. Contacts are matched on email, so importing an updated export later adds only the new people and skips everyone already on your Clients list. After each import, the summary says how many contacts were added, how many were already on your list, and how many were skipped for having no name or valid email.
Jobs already booked in your old tool
Leave jobs that are already contracted and paying where they are. Their signed contracts and payment schedules live in the old tool, and moving them midway would mean a second contract for the same work. For a new job with an existing client, send a fresh BookNox proposal; the client signs it and pays the deposit through your own Stripe account.
What changes
BookNox is a flat monthly subscription with no booking fee, so you keep your deposit revenue apart from Stripe's processing fee. The pieces work as one flow: the booking page quotes from your catalog, the proposal is quote, contract, and invoice in one document, and the deposit lands in your own bank through Stripe Connect. How long switching takes
Most of the time goes into your catalog. The import is a single upload, and connecting Stripe and Google Calendar is one form and one consent screen. Writing your packages, add ons, and deposit rules takes as long as you want to spend on them, and starting from BookNox's defaults for your trade gives you something to edit rather than a blank page.
Can I run both tools for a while?
Yes. Nothing in BookNox depends on your old tool, so you can set BookNox up, finish your current jobs where they started, and move new inquiries over when your page is live. Setting up costs nothing; the subscription starts only when you are ready to publish your page and take real bookings.
Your contracts
No contract needs to be written from scratch. BookNox builds each contract from your catalog: your deposit, your cancellation window, your travel terms, and the clauses for your trade. Set those once in Settings, then read one proposal from start to finish to confirm the terms say what you mean.
What to tell your clients
Clients need very little explanation, since they never create an account or a password. When an existing client books something new, send the BookNox proposal and mention that the contract and the payment now come from a new link. Your booking link can replace the inquiry form link on your website, social profiles, and email signature right away, so new prospects get an instant quote instead of waiting for your reply.
