Supported industries & multiple catalogs

Supported industries & multiple catalogs

BookNox supports 14 kinds of service business, and you can run a separate pricing catalog for each trade you work in. Each industry brings its own sample packages, its own contract clauses, and in a few cases its own payment schedule, so a caterer's contract talks about headcounts and a DJ's about overtime.

Which industries does BookNox support?

You can set up catalogs for these 14 industries:

  • Photographers, including event photographers
  • Videographers
  • Wedding planners
  • Wedding venues
  • Florists
  • Officiants
  • DJs, and bands or live acts through a live performance switch
  • Caterers
  • Hair and makeup artists
  • Doulas
  • Life coaches
  • Virtual assistants
  • Tutors
  • Web designers

How industries differ

Each industry starts with its own sample packages and add ons, and its contract carries a section of terms for that trade. Payment models differ too:

  • Weddings collect four equal 25% milestones, the first being the deposit.
  • Web design takes 50% to start, then collects later milestones when you mark them reached.
  • Tutors, life coaches, and virtual assistants can bill monthly for a fixed term of 2 to 12 months.
  • Every other industry takes a deposit you set (5% to 50%) and a balance due 7 days before the service date, with an optional installment plan.

Travel differs as well. Trades that go to the client start with travel charges on, while venues, life coaches, virtual assistants, tutors, and web designers start with travel off; a switch in each catalog changes that.

Running multiple catalogs

Configure a catalog for each industry you offer, and your booking page shows every one you have set up. A client picks the service first, then sees that catalog's packages, add ons, travel, and deposit, so a photographer who also films can quote both from one link. Each catalog keeps its own deposit percentage, cancellation window, and trade terms, and every proposal uses the catalog for the industry it was created in.

Sample catalogs

Each industry's Start from BookNox defaults button loads sample packages written for that trade, which you rename, reprice, or remove. Some examples:

  • Photographers: Portrait, Wedding, Event, and Commercial packages, with add ons like a second shooter and an engagement session
  • Videographers: a highlight film, a full day wedding film, and a feature film with highlight
  • Wedding planners: a planner consult, full service planning, day of coordination, venue booking, and catering coordination
  • Venues: a flat rental, a food and beverage minimum, a loft space, and a garden space
  • Florists: bridal party, ceremony, reception, and full wedding florals
  • Officiants: civil, religious or interfaith, elopement, and vow renewal ceremonies
  • DJs: wedding reception, corporate event, private party, and ceremony sound
  • Caterers: passed bites, buffet, plated, and family style service
  • Doulas: birth support, weekly postpartum support, and a combined package
  • Life coaches and tutors: a single 60 minute session and multi session packages
  • Virtual assistants: monthly blocks of hours, from 5 to 40 hours a month
  • Web designers: a landing page, a standard site, a larger site, and a business site
  • Hair and makeup artists: wedding day, event glam, and photo shoot packages

Every package and add on can be renamed, repriced, or removed, and a catalog holds up to 10 packages and 20 add ons, so the sample is only ever a starting point.

Your first catalog

At least one catalog is required before you can create proposals or publish your page, which keeps clients from ever seeing placeholder prices. The quickest start is the Start from BookNox defaults button, which fills a catalog with sample numbers for your trade that you then replace with your own.

Can hair and makeup artists in Texas use BookNox?

Not for hair and makeup today. BookNox can't take direct bookings for hair and makeup businesses based in Texas, so when your business state is set to Texas, a hair and makeup catalog cannot be saved, no hair and makeup proposal can be created, and your booking page never offers that service. A catalog saved earlier can still be deleted, and every other industry works normally for Texas businesses.

Why isn't my trade listed?

Every industry BookNox supports has contract clauses written for that trade, so adding one is real work rather than a menu option. If your trade is close to one on the list, such as a band choosing the DJ catalog with the live performance switch, start there and adjust the packages. Otherwise, tell support@booknox.com what you do; requests are how the list grows.

Examples for your industry

Each industry has its own page on booknox.com, and each of those pages links to a sample booking page built for that trade. The samples use fictional businesses and illustrative prices, so they show the layout and the quote, not market rates.

Contract clauses by trade

Trade clauses are set in each catalog's defaults section. DJs set an overtime rate, venues a damage deposit and an alcohol policy, florists a delivery radius, officiants their script revision rounds, caterers a headcount lock, doulas their included visits, coaches and tutors a session length, virtual assistants a response time and an overflow rate, videographers an opt in drone clause, and photographers an optional reschedule clause. The Customizing your contract terms article explains each one.
